• If you write stuff in plaintext format, your life will be better for it. You can use plain ol' text on any platform, any device, at any point in time. There is nothing to convert, and nothing to format.  Nothing will ever be more portable or searchable or translatable or ultimately useful. You can copy and paste it to and from anything (social media, websites, forms, emails, code, text messages on your phone, etc.) without any extra work or workarounds or errors to fix. It just works, and anything else is ultimately more work. Text is Distractionless I've learned to love the act of creative writing in plain text. It's ideal for creating drafts and initial planning for pretty much anything. I can't get caught

  • People reach out to Snap Synapse for all sorts of things all the time. We recently received a message from someone looking for recommendations on what headset/mic to buy: Hello, I’ve attended several of your webinars and have attend your sessions at DevLearn and you’ve shared a ton of great information. Do you have any recommendations on a headset with mic to be used for virtual training deliveries and/or recordings for elearning? Thank you in advance. Amy You can ask us questions like this anytime. Chances are that, like Amy, you'll get a response like this one back within the day: Hey Amy! Glad you’ve been picking up what we're putting out there, and thanks for reaching out :) For

  • After presenting dozens of workshops, webinars, and L&D conferences on mobile video production in the last year, the one question turns up more than any other is: While it's our firm position at Snap Synapse that buying stuff can't solve your video problems (no amount of gear can fix a broken script, a faulty learning objective, or a bad idea!), it is still a fair question. Here are our answers for someone just starting out. You're looking at probably $120-200 total (all prices listed in USD and may vary slightly over time). This investment can completely transform the quality of your videos, and you don't have to spend that all at once if you go in this sequence: Start with a cheap ring

  • Here at Snap Synapse, we've always got an eye toward the future. It's one thing to meet the current learning needs and leverage the tried an true tools to do it. It's another thing altogether to anticipate both. That's why we're so pleased to be a part of this Radical Shifts in Learning event on Friday! As President of Snap Synapse, I'll be joining other luminaries such as Dr. David Metcalf, Dr. Michael Kolodziej, Julian Stodd, Megan Torrance, Dr. Ray Jimenez, Jennifer Hoffman, and Dr. Anders Gronstedt for this full-day masters series webinar. In "From Now to Next in Learning Tech" (9:30am Pacific), we'll be discussing how to differentiate what's coming vs the bright and shiny distractions that won't make

  • The following uncomfortable conversation happens rarely, and I actually wish it happened a lot more… Ms. Important: “We just need employees to stop doing X and do Y instead. When they do X it costs time, money, and audit has a fit! Get everyone to do Y.” Me: “Okay, we’ll teach all your employees exactly how to do Y.” Ms. Important: “Yeah, that’s nice. But I need people to stop doing X. Everyone needs to do Y instead of X…every single time.” Me: “We can teach them to do Y better, and we can tell them all the reasons why it’s better than X.” Ms. Important: “Are you hearing me? I need you to train them to stop doing X! They’ve seen and done Y
